A three-month immersive research experience
Sci-MI joined KEMRI's SLAS programme in 2023 to provide mentorship on independent scientific projects. This free and accessible program is a collaboration between sci-MI and the School Leavers’ Attachment Scheme (SLAS) at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme. It is our hope that through KEMRI x sci-MI, we can improve the accessibility of science research for students abroad and expose them early on to what a career in science looks like.
If you are a student interested in SLAS, please visit their website here! If you are interested in mentoring students, we begin recruiting in January of each year, and mentors will meet with students on Nairobi time.
Sci-MI provides mentoring and science training resources, enabling students to pursue independent research projects.
Projects are often rooted within local communities, spanning topics such as malaria prevention and climate change,
and culminate with a presentation and write-up at the end of the program.
Between the start of March and the end of May, students will have access to recorded lectures from sci-MI’s programs
to explore their interests, and are paired with sci-MI mentors to receive weekly guidance on their independent research projects.
